What our students and parents say about us

-J

For debate, I learned how to speak faster and more confidently, as well as how to think under pressure, extend speeches while saying them, argue points better, and strengthen my critical thinking abilities. Overall, through practice, I managed to speak for longer periods of time as well as strengthen my relationships with my partner.

Before I joined Edvic’s Debate Class, I was lost. I couldn’t speak up to certain people, and I was shy. But now I found my true self. My confident self, who was hiding deep inside of me all this time. I realized the moment I joined this very debate class that I belonged to. That I knew where I was meant to be. Every tournament, I enjoy working with my small group to write speeches for different debate topics, social, economic, government, or anything that will always interest me. My public speaking and debating skills have improved, and I continue to learn more today. I can now argue fairly and effectively with people (you all know a certain group of people you want to argue effectively with). I go into deep thoughts every time the class ends, and I wish you all the best debating in the future. Thank you!

My first ever class with Edvic was the one for beginners so that I would not fall behind everyone else (as my mom said). My first two coaches, both made all of the classes so much fun. They made me always want to come back to the class, even after a tiring day of school. I wouldn’t even be mad about the homework they set, all because they still made me enjoy the classes. I also really enjoyed Edvic’s teaching style in general. I really like how they teach you everything you need to know before you get introduced to a new motion, and if they do teach you something after, it usually does not affect whether or not you need to re-write your speech but it is still very helpful. Before starting the debate, I also despised watching the news. I used to regard reading or watching the news to be a thing that only grandpas do, but now the news really keeps me up to date on everything (and my friends don’t think I live under a rock anymore either). I also really enjoyed the Friendship Tournaments that we have had. It gave us a great opportunity to try debating in impromptu, and even if we had little or no experience, it was very helpful to see other more experienced people debate, especially since they were from different parts of the world. Although me and my team had lost the first Friendship Tournament, it was a great way to reflect on what we did wrong. As we could see how other teams had done differently, we could try their strategies in the next tournament. I also really liked how we would exchange feedback with the opposing team.
